On behalf of myself; Group Secretary / Founder Member / Competition Organiser, and everyone else associated with our Liverpool based creative writing group, which is ‘The University of Liverpool Creative Writing Society for Lifelong Learning’, as well as every other person who participated in ‘The 1st Liverpool International, Open Short Story, Poetry and Playwriting Competition 2013’, I would like to repeat myself again and say many, many congratulations to each and every one of our international writing competition winners, runners-up, third placed and short listed.

 

 

The quality of the writing for each and every category was excellent, so you have all done extremely well considering this year’s competition entrants for 2013, were from international countries including America, Holland, Canada, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, North Wales, South Wales, and every single county covering the length and breath of beautiful England.

 

 

Now it is time for me as group secretary to â€˜Invite’ you all to my wonderful home city of Liverpool by sending all of you your invitations to attend our ‘Annual Gala Awards Night’; as well as invitations to every other writer who entered â€˜The 1st Liverpool International, Open Short Story, Poetry and Playwriting Competition 2013’, during 2013 the city of Liverpool’s year of Dementia; this invitation also extends to your partners, friends and families.

Our annual gala awards night is to be held on Saturday 16th November 2013; at ‘The Casa Bar’ 29 Hope St, Liverpool, Merseyside L1 9BQ Tel: 0151-709-2148 From 7.30pm until late. The creative Liverpool street of hope that runs directly between our two magnificent Liverpool Cathedrals; the Anglican Cathedral; the largest cathedral in the U.K. and the fifth largest in the world, and the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, which is affectionately known in Liverpool as Paddy’s Wigwam. 

 

 

The event will take place in the large back function room at ‘The Casa Bar’ in Hope Street, Liverpool, a place where all of the competition category winners, runner-ups; the third placed prize winners, as well as the short listed, will all be invited, congratulated and presented with their prizes by our renowned International Writing Competition Judge; Linda Walters.

 

 

Our Group Treasurer Hilary Alexander, accompanied by some of our other group members will be presenting a cheque on our Liverpool based writing group’s behalf to Francesca D’Arcy, a representative from the Liverpool branch of the Alzheimer’s Society, for monies generated from‘The 1st Liverpool International, Open Short Story, Poetry and Playwriting Competition 2013’ and also from the forthcoming two exciting raffles that will be held on the night. (Information about the raffles below)

 

 

There promises to be a full evening of entertainment as usual; with readings from the winners, runners-up, third placed and short listed writers, as well as two brilliant local poets as invited guest speakers. One, our world renowned international writing competition judge, and excellent poet, Linda Walters, and second; and in my opinion Liverpool’s best loved, most popular, and most entertaining poet, Mr David Bateman. There will be lots more details and information about this wonderful event quite soon. In the meantime please take the time to look at one of our wonderful set of raffle prizes that were so very kindly donated by Liverpool’s very own poet, Mr Roger McGough.

Prizes for â€˜Raffle No 1’ (£1 per one Single Ticket)

 

 

 

1/ Writing for Children: A six month, twelve module, on-line course for people wanting to write stories for children (Value £250). Kindly donated by Neil Maxwell-Keys, Managing Director of writestorybooksforchildren.com Neil Maxwell-Smith will kindly be present at our annual gala awards night, and will present this wonderful prize to the lucky winner personally.

 

2/ A rare signed, hand-written poem by the famous Liverpool born, world renowned poet; current presenter of BBC Radio 4’s ‘Poetry Please’; former singer songwriter and group member of the Liverpool group ‘The Scaffold’, Mr Roger McGough, framed and ready to hang on your wall. Unfortunately Roger is unable to attend our annual award’s night, but tells us that the Alzheimer’s Society is a charity close to his own heart.

 

3/ A signed copy of one of Roger McGough’s anthologies of poems entitled, ‘As Far As I know.’

 

 

4/ A signed copy of one of Roger McGough’s books entitled ‘Stinkers Ahoy!’ with illustrations done by Tony Blundell.

 

 

5/ A framed print of the painting ‘Ferry across the Mersey’ that was originally painted by Tommy McBride, Group Secretary and Founder Member of ‘The University of Liverpool Creative Writing Society for Lifelong Learning’. We thought it may be a good idea and an opportunity for the competition participants to own a ‘Momento’, in the form of a copy of my painting that I used when designing and printing all of the international competition flyers and international competition entry forms off, advertising â€˜The 1st Liverpool International Open Short Story, Poetry and Playwriting Competition 2013’.
